- Description: Jamf vs Intune compared on price, Mac depth, declarative management and AI governance — plus why running both is often the right answer.
- Author: John Karpentar
- Tags: Enterprise, AI

**TL;DR**

- **Jamf for Mac** is **$12.50 per macOS device/month**, billed annually, 25-device minimum — and that bundle includes Jamf Pro, Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect.
- **Intune Plan 1** is **$8.00 per user/month** standalone, but is already included in Microsoft 365 E3 ($39.00/user/month) and E5 ($60.00/user/month).
- Since **July 2026**, Microsoft has been folding former paid Intune Suite add-ons into E3 and E5 — E5 now absorbs Endpoint Privilege Management, Cloud PKI and Enterprise App Management.
- You do not have to choose. Jamf Pro reports device compliance into Intune via the **Device Compliance** connector — but the older Conditional Access integration is dead and no longer accepts new configurations.

Pick **Jamf** if Macs are core to your business and you want the deepest, fastest Apple support. Pick **Intune** if you run a mixed Windows-and-Mac fleet already licensed for Microsoft 365, where Intune costs nothing extra at the margin. Many organisations run both: Jamf manages the Mac, Intune enforces Conditional Access and compliance.

## Why almost every "Jamf vs Intune" page is written by a vendor

Before the comparison, a disclosure about the comparisons you have been reading.

Search `jamf vs intune` and page one is near-uniformly commercial. The second result is **Jamf's own** comparison of itself against Intune. Four more are published by companies selling competing or adjacent products — including two direct MDM competitors, one of which titles its page "Jamf vs Intune vs Fleet." Another promotes a third Apple MDM alongside the two. One more is a reseller.

Microsoft's entry is not a comparison at all. It is a setup document for connecting Jamf to Intune.

The only non-commercial result is a Reddit thread.

That is the gap. Edgewisely sells neither product. Every number below was read off the vendor's own live pricing or documentation on 2 October 2026, with the source linked.

## Jamf Pro vs Intune: the differences that matter

| **Platforms** | Apple-only (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, visionOS, watchOS) + Android via Jamf for Mobile | Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android, Linux |
| **Pricing unit** | **Per device**, per month, annual billing, 25-device minimum | **Per user**, per month, annual billing |
| **Bundled security** | Jamf Protect (endpoint protection) and Jamf Connect (identity) included in Jamf for Mac | Separate — Defender for Endpoint, Entra, Purview licensed independently |
| **Apple feature-day support** | Same-day support is Jamf's core promise; 11.32 shipped macOS 27 compatibility on **8 Sept 2026** | Follows, generally behind Jamf on new Apple payloads |
| **Declarative Device Management** | DDM software-update enforcement; extended to on-premises in **11.29.0** (16 June 2026) | DDM for required VPP apps on **macOS 26+** and **iOS/iPadOS 17.2+** |
| **Conditional Access** | Not native — relies on reporting compliance into Entra ID | Native; this is Intune's structural advantage |
| **Windows management** | None | Full |
| **Infrastructure as code** | Terraform provider and Platform API Gateway, both GA | Graph API, no first-party Terraform provider |

The short version: **Jamf is deeper on Apple, Intune is broader and cheaper if you are already a Microsoft shop.** That has been true for years and is still true. What has changed is the pricing maths and the AI layer.

## What do Jamf and Intune actually cost?

Both publish list prices. They price on **different units**, which is where most comparisons go wrong.

| Product | List price | Unit | What you get |
| ---------------- | ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Jamf for Mac | **$12.50** | per macOS **device**/month, billed annually, 25-device min | Jamf Pro + Jamf Connect + Jamf Protect |
| Jamf for Mobile | **$5.75** | per mobile **device**/month, billed annually, 25-device min | MDM + mobile threat defence + ZTNA |
| Jamf Now | **from $4** | per device/month | Under 25 employees only |
| Intune Plan 1 | **$8.00** | per **user**/month | Base MDM/MAM; included in E3/E5 |
| Intune Plan 2 | **$4.00** | per user/month add-on | Tunnel for MAM, FOTA, specialty devices |
| Intune Suite | **$10.00** | per user/month | All advanced modules |
| Microsoft 365 E3 | **$39.00** | per user/month, paid yearly | Includes Intune Plan 1 |
| Microsoft 365 E5 | **$60.00** | per user/month, paid yearly | Includes Intune Plan 1 + most advanced modules |

Two things to note.

**Jamf no longer publishes a standalone Jamf Pro price.** The [Jamf pricing page](https://www.jamf.com/pricing/?ref=edgewisely.com) sells bundles. Both Mac and Mobile plans carry a "Contact Us" button, and Jamf states localised pricing requires a rep or reseller quote. If you want Jamf Pro alone, that price is not published.

**The per-unit difference flips the answer depending on your fleet shape.** One hundred users each carrying a Mac and an iPhone costs **$2,400/month** on Jamf ($1,250 + $1,150) versus **$800/month** on Intune Plan 1\. Reverse it — 100 shared Macs used by 300 staff — and Jamf is **$1,250/month** against Intune's **$2,400**. Count devices and users before you compare headline numbers.

Also note the $12.50 is not a like-for-like against $8.00\. Jamf for Mac bundles endpoint protection and identity; Intune Plan 1 does not. If you are pricing those layers separately, our [CrowdStrike vs SentinelOne comparison](https://www.edgewisely.com/crowdstrike-vs-sentinelone/) covers what standalone endpoint protection costs, and the [EDR tool roundup](https://www.edgewisely.com/top-7-edr-tools-2026/) covers the wider field.

## The Intune Suite repackaging you probably missed

This is the most significant recent pricing change and it favours Intune.

Microsoft is rolling formerly paid add-ons directly into Microsoft 365\. Per [Microsoft's own Intune pricing page](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/microsoft-intune-pricing?ref=edgewisely.com), **starting July 2026**, E3 customers receive Remote Help, Advanced Analytics and Intune Plan 2 capabilities. E5 customers get those **plus Endpoint Privilege Management, Microsoft Cloud PKI and Enterprise App Management**. Tenants get 30 days' notice in Message Center.

Bought separately those five modules list at **$3.50, $5.00, $3.00, $2.00 and $2.00** per user/month. If you hold E5, that capability is now bundled.

If your last Jamf-versus-Intune costing predates July 2026, it is out of date.

## Can you use Jamf and Intune together?

Yes, and this is the most under-covered answer on page one. Jamf Pro reports macOS device compliance to Microsoft Entra ID, so Entra Conditional Access policies gate access using Jamf's compliance verdict. Jamf runs the Mac; Microsoft runs the access decision.

**The integration path changed, and the old one is gone.** [Microsoft's documentation](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/device-security/compliance/jamf-entra-id?ref=edgewisely.com) is blunt: "Beginning on January 31, 2025, the platform that Jamf Pro's Conditional Access feature is built on will no longer be supported." The legacy path at *Settings > Global > Conditional Access* "is no longer able to accept new configurations."

New integrations use *Settings > Global > Device Compliance* **in Jamf Pro, paired with** Partner compliance management\*\* in the Intune admin centre, selecting the Jamf Device Compliance partner for macOS.

Three operational details worth knowing before you commit:

- **Jamf-managed devices do not appear in Intune's device list.** Compliance state flows to Entra ID, not a merged inventory.
- **Users must register through Jamf Self Service, not Company Portal.** Using Company Portal returns an `AccountNotOnboarded` error.
- **If you terminate the integration, macOS devices are removed from Intune after 90 days.**

This split — one tool managing the endpoint, another deciding access — is the same pattern covered in our [Zscaler vs Netskope comparison](https://www.edgewisely.com/zscaler-vs-netskope/), and the identity half of it is in the [identity and access management roundup](https://www.edgewisely.com/top-7-identity-access-management-solutions-2026/).

## Jamf vs Intune for Mac: who governs on-device AI?

This is now a real differentiator, and it is where the two products have diverged most sharply in 2026.

**Both can switch Apple Intelligence features off.** Intune exposes Apple Intelligence restrictions — Genmoji, Image Playground, Writing Tools, Siri, Mail and Safari summaries — though [Microsoft's release notes](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/whats-new/?ref=edgewisely.com) note that "with the release of 26.4, Apple deprecated several intelligence-related settings in the MDM restrictions payload," directing admins to DDM configurations instead. Intune's September 2026 release added Settings Catalog coverage for Apple Intelligence on both iOS/iPadOS and macOS.

**Only Jamf currently governs third-party AI tools at the OS level.** Jamf shipped **AI Governance** in June 2026: discovery of AI tools running across managed Macs, policy enforcement, and audit-ready reporting. Jamf's [AI Governance page](https://www.jamf.com/solutions/ai-governance/?ref=edgewisely.com) names the tools it targets — **Claude Code, Claude Cowork, OpenAI Codex, Claude Desktop, Cursor and GitHub Copilot** — as the generative AI software already running on Mac fleets outside IT governance. It is included in Jamf for Mac at no extra licence cost; Jamf's pricing FAQ states plainly that AI Governance "comes built into Jamf for Mac."

At [JNUC 2026 in Kansas City on 23 September](https://www.jamf.com/resources/press-releases/jamf-takes-apple-management-into-the-ai-era-at-jnuc-2026/?ref=edgewisely.com), Jamf targeted Q4 2026 for browser-level AI governance, and for deployment of local inference engines via Blueprints. Jamf says it now supports more than **35 million devices across over 78,000 organisations**.

Treat the Q4 2026 items as roadmap, not shipped. But the shipped June capability already has no Intune equivalent: Intune can disable Apple's AI features; it does not inventory which AI coding agents your engineers are running.

If shadow AI on endpoints is a live governance problem for you, that gap is the strongest argument for Jamf in this comparison.

## What this means for you

**If you're an all-Apple shop.** Jamf, without much deliberation. You are paying for Apple feature-day parity and the bundled Protect/Connect stack. The $12.50 is defensible when you price the security tooling it replaces.

**If you run a mixed Windows-and-Mac fleet on Microsoft 365 E3 or E5.** Start with Intune. You already own it, the July 2026 bundling made it materially better value, and one console beats two. Revisit only if Mac-specific gaps actually bite.

**If Macs are a serious minority — roughly 15% or more of endpoints — in a Microsoft shop.** This is where running both wins. Jamf for the Macs, Intune for Windows and Conditional Access, joined by the Device Compliance connector. Budget for two toolchains and two skill sets.

**If you're under 25 employees.** Neither of the above. Jamf Now starts at $4 per device/month, or Intune via a Microsoft 365 Business plan.

**If AI tool governance is a board-level ask.** Jamf, today. Intune manages Apple's AI features; Jamf inventories and controls the third-party agents as well.

**If you're buying in the next quarter.** Get a written quote. Jamf's per-device list price is published but the purchase path is a sales conversation, and Microsoft states that prices "may vary based on your Microsoft agreement."

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can you use Jamf and Intune together?

Yes. Jamf Pro reports macOS compliance to Microsoft Entra ID through Intune's Device Compliance partner connector, letting Entra Conditional Access policies gate resource access. Configure it under Settings > Global > Device Compliance in Jamf Pro. Note that Jamf-managed devices will not appear in Intune's device inventory list.

### Is Intune good enough for managing Macs?

For most mixed fleets, yes. Intune handles enrolment, configuration profiles, compliance, app deployment and declarative device management on macOS. It typically trails Jamf on same-day support for new Apple payloads and features. If Macs are a small minority and your needs are standard, Intune is sufficient.

### Which is cheaper, Jamf or Intune?

Usually Intune, because Intune Plan 1 is included in Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 at no extra cost. Standalone it is $8.00 per user/month versus Jamf for Mac at $12.50 per device/month. But Jamf bundles endpoint protection and identity, and per-device pricing wins on shared-device fleets.

### Do you need Jamf if you have Microsoft 365?

Not necessarily. Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 include Intune Plan 1, which manages Macs adequately for many organisations. You need Jamf when Apple depth matters: same-day OS support, advanced Mac workflows, or governing third-party AI tools on endpoints, which Intune currently cannot inventory.

**Editor's note — sources:** All prices were read off the vendors' own live pricing pages on 2 October 2026 — jamf.com/pricing and microsoft.com/en-us/security/microsoft-intune-pricing — and are list prices before negotiation; Jamf prices per device and Microsoft per user, so the two figures are not directly comparable. Integration details, the 31 January 2025 Conditional Access deprecation and the Apple Intelligence payload changes come from Microsoft Learn. AI Governance scope and the JNUC 2026 announcements come from Jamf's own solution page and press release. Jamf Pro 11.32 (8 September 2026, macOS 27 compatibility) and 11.29.0 (16 June 2026, on-premises DDM software-update enforcement) were verified against Jamf's release announcements. Q4 2026 capabilities are vendor roadmap statements, not shipped features.
